Leadership is a verb
Being a CEO, Founder or functional business executive comes with position power. You have the authority to make decisions and establish rules and expectations with little to no input from others. People who work for you are obligated to do what you say unless what you request violates the law or certain moral and ethical standards. I can quickly size up an organization simply by paying attention to how people in the organization react and respond to those with position power. When fear, anger, resentment, defiance and other emotionally negative responses are visible, it is a clear indication that a business is in trouble and failing leadership is the culprit. Leadership is often used as a noun when in actuality, it is a verb - Leadership is a way of being.
Real leadership ignites positive emotional responses in others and results in followership - a willingness to engage in behavior that is consistent with given direction. This becomes a sustainable reserve of intellectual capacity and people resources that fuel growth and outstanding market performance.
