This is one of my favorite truisms of life:
"The definition of insanity if doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." Albert Einstein, a truly EXTRAORDINARY thinker and scientist, coined this phrase, which is often repeated by business consultants around the world. Why? Because no matter your age, rank, or professional expertise, their is a fundamental rationality to this statement that resonates with our own life experiences. So why then do we as smart, capable people get stuck in unproductive loops of thinking and action that bind us to unproductive and at times counterproductive choices to continue when what we are doing is not achieving the results we desire? I will share with you two basic insights about human nature that in my experience help explain this dilemma. (1) Most of us are conditioned to choose safety, which means that we will prefer the status quo, even if it is unsatisfactory, unless and until we feel threatened enough to want to change. (2) We are so consumed mentally and physically by the demands of the status quo that we do not have the time or possibly the capacity to create a different outcome. Fortunately for business leaders, suffering from this type of insanity is highly treatable and doesn't require a visit to the psych ward. All you need is a great COACH. Engaging with a Coach is the start of committing your time and energy to asking and answering the question, "What if?" What if I could increase my revenue. my throughput, my ROI, my customer retention, my employee engagement, etc. Asking "What if" is the start of visualizing a new future in which the way you and your business operate results in the outcomes that matter most to you. It is not an exercise in moving forward by inches, but a transformational leap into a completely different way of generating positive and sustainable results. Are you ready to explore the power of "What if?" Let's Talk - the first conversation is always free. Comments are closed.
